National Basketball Coach Alex Mumbru Sidelined, Assistant Alan Ibrahimagic Takes the Helm

Alex Mumbru, the head coach of the National Basketball team, will be absent from the upcoming European Championship (EM) games in Tampere, Finland, as well as the matches against Sweden and Lithuania due to an "acute abdomen" in the abdominal area.

In his absence, assistant coach Alan Ibrahimagic will take the reins. Ibrahimagic has already been standing in for Mumbru during the EM opener and subsequent matches while the coach is hospitalized and recovering.

Ibrahimagic made his debut as the temporary head coach in the team's 106:76 win against Montenegro on Wednesday. Speaking about his new role, Ibrahimagic expressed his honor and eagerness, mentioning that the first day was challenging due to the adjustments required, but now it doesn't play a significant role.

The team is expected to maintain the same lineup for the games against Sweden on Friday and Lithuania on Saturday. Mumbru, despite his absence, will be able to watch the games on TV from the hospital.

Team doctor Oliver Putz revealed the details of Mumbru's health condition at a press conference. He expressed gratitude towards the staff at the university hospital and stated that Mumbru's health is being closely monitored. Putz is hopeful about Mumbru's recovery: "Everything is under control. Everything will be fine. We have to see day by day how he develops health-wise."

If Mumbru's health improves, there is a possibility that he may return during the final round in Riga, Latvia. In the meantime, Ibrahimagic will continue to lead the team on the sidelines.

The games against Sweden and Lithuania will be broadcast on MagentaSport and RTL, and the games in Tampere will also be aired on these channels. Mumbru can watch his team play from the comfort of the hospital, cheering them on as they strive for victory.
