"Five cases of road traffic accidents involving wild animals have been recorded in the Tomsk region so far this year," the message said.
Sukholov added that all these accidents involved moose or deer being hit by vehicles. Earlier reports stated that when a road traffic accident involves wild animals, leaving the scene is prohibited. Drivers are advised to stop, activate hazard lights, display an emergency stop sign, check for injured parties, and dial 112 to report the incident. Failing to remain at the accident scene could result in a driving license suspension for up to 18 months and a 15-day arrest.
As for the overall wildlife situation in the Tomsk region, data shows that more than 40,000 moose, deer, and boar were hunted in 2024. These numbers are significant, attributed to the large forests and favorable climate in the region, which provide a conducive habitat for these animals.
